GDF benefits
Building the future today
Once a community forms a GDF Community Partnership, it will receive up to £1 million a year in GDF Community Investment Funding (CIF).
If the community progresses to deep borehole investigations, GDF CIF Funding increases funding in that area up to £2.5 million a year.
So far, over £7 million has been awarded to local community projects ranging from a mountain rescue vehicle to nursery equipment, to a new BMX track, demonstrating the tangible GDF benefits for participating communities.
Community Investment Funding
GDF Community Investment Funding (CIF) is made available by the UK government to communities that form a GDF Community Partnerships and take part in the GDF siting process.
Up to £1 million of funding is available annually per community, rising to up to £2.5 million if deep borehole investigations take place to assess geological suitability.
Significant Additional Investment
Significant additional investment will become available to the community of the chosen site for a GDF. It will replace the GDF Community Investment Funding and enhance the economic benefits, jobs and skills training that come with hosting a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
We hold meetings in the communities considering hosting a GDF, helping them plan for their future, and make the most of the opportunities to improve transport, health, education, connectivity in their area, for instance.
Creating a community vision involves a GDF Community Partnership asking local people what matters to them to help generate ideas and consider what they would like to see being developed. For example, some communities have already said they are interested in better transport links.
Ultimately, the community vision will reflect a community’s hopes and aspirations, it’s a catalyst for conversation. And the GDF benefits will last for generations.
Jobs and skills for generations
A GDF will create jobs for the local community, as it is a major infrastructure project that brings with it many opportunities and will create thousands of well-paid jobs.
Job creation will continue throughout the lifetime of a GDF, which is around 175 years. More than one generation will benefit from this large-scale infrastructure project as it provides an opportunity for continuous employment, and a chance for communities to upskill and reskill.
The majority of jobs could be drawn from the local community, and we will support local people with training and new skills. Jobs could be directly created by the GDF itself, such as in construction, or because of it, in catering and transport, for instance.
A GDF will provide unique opportunities not only to recruit but also to train locally for the thousands of roles that will be created. It provides a unique opportunity for a long-standing employment pipeline with the ability to transform the prospects of a region for future generations.
Community Vision
The GDF Community Partnership offers a valuable opportunity to work with us as the developer at an early stage so that we can deliver the local community’s vision and ultimately Significant Additional Investment for the area.
