NWS Low Level Waste Repository awarded top safety accolade for 20th consecutive year
Repository site in Cumbria celebrates RoSPA Gold Award
Nuclear Waste Services’ continuing commitment to the highest standards of safety at the Low Level Waste Repository has been recognised with a 20th consecutive Gold Award and Order of Distinction from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards have for seven decades been the benchmark for excellence, recognising outstanding achievements and dedication to workplace wellbeing.
Speaking of the achievement, Mike Pigott, Director if Sites & Operations, said
“I am incredibly proud of this, our 20th consecutive Gold Award and Order of Distinction, recognising our unwavering commitment to health & safety by all levels of our multi-disciplinary integrated teams, delivering our mission at pace today, safely.”
“This recognition at a time of significant change in the nature and risk profile of our work on site, makes it even more special, while also serving to remind us we cannot be complacent and must continue to work hard to ensure we all think safety, work safely and get home safely.”
The Repository is currently undergoing a change in operations on site after commencing the capping programme, to provide an engineered protective cap over waste disposal trenches and vaults, which has meant more construction activity at the site.
Now in its 69th year, the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Awards are the world’s largest health and safety awards programme. They recognise organisations and individuals who have set the highest standards in accident prevention.
